What are Electric Propulsion and Energy Management Systems?
The industry is developing many options for electric-only propulsion, particularly for smaller outboard engines and craft. Depending on the number of annual operating hours and specific use case, electric-only propulsion systems can offer reduced carbon emissions.
Lithium-ion batteries used with or without internal combustion propulsion can reduce or eliminate the need for an onboard generator by managing craft hotel loads such as safety systems, lights, pumps, and air conditioning.
These systems can also benefit from solar charging and/or charging from renewable energy sources.
Careful understanding of the use case and application is required for carbon benefits to be realised.
