Hybrid-Electric Propulsion
What is Hybrid-Electric Propulsion?
Integration of internal combustion engines with electric motors can further improve craft efficiency in certain use cases. For example, electric motors can be used for lower speed in and around marinas while the internal combustion engine can be used for greater distances. A well-managed hybrid-electric system can improve overall internal combustion engine efficiency by allowing the engine to operate at its peak efficiency without compromising range or performance.
These systems can also benefit from solar charging and/or charging from renewable energy sources and provide the consumer with the option to operate in fully electric mode, charging mode, or extended range mode.
Careful understanding of the use case and application is required for carbon benefits to be realized.
